Looking Out - Home

This series of images was the first batch of images I made towards this project.  I wanted to narrate through imagery the feelings of being home alone, with my thoughts.  Thoughts of fear, sadness, betrayal, confusion and wonder.

This view is from my bedroom window, I stare out the window often, contemplating if to venture outside or not.  I need to go out daily to walk my 3 dogs.  🐕

There have been days where I would spend more time procrastinating about walking the dogs and end up not leaving the house because of my anxiety.

I decided to edited this to black and white because I felt portrayed my mood and the message I want to deliver through my imagery.

This is the dorma window in the attic room in my house, and I can peer outside to see daily life.  I feel safe there, because I have a birds-eye view of the street and passerbys.   I am situated at an elevated view and hopefully no one is able to monitor my movements.

This image was taken with a use of a tripod and long shutter speed, I wanted to create a starburst in the street lamp.  This is achieved by using an aperture of 13,16 or 18.

The car situated in the bottom right hand corner, is where the surveillance tram would have parked to record footage of my movements.

This image is very powerful at narrating my feelings of having to look outside to check if anyone was there watching me.

This image was chosen for the final exhibition.

This window is where I can have a 180 degree view of the basin of Caerphilly town and its surrounding mountains.  I can see Caerphilly Castle from this window and regularly watch the Fireworks displays every BonFire night in November and the 'Big Cheese' annual events.

I love this image, I used a shallow depth of field and took the image using a tripod from the attic window.  The yellow colours in the circle orbs bring a feeling of warmth. The rain drops on the glass window are sharp, however they look like their moving upwards, like air bubbles in a fish tank.

This image was chosen for the final exhibition.  I have feelings of hope when I look at this image.  This is because blue is my favourite colour and the ice on the window is fresh and clean.  I get the feeling that I can make a fresh start and I want to look outside to see where the light is coming from.

This is the port hole window I had designed to shed some light into the attic conversion in my house.  I aimed for the design to be a surfing wave,  but when my daughter saw it, she said it looked like an angry seagull.

We all interperate things differently because of personal experiences and how our minds work.

This is a simple vent cover, which covers trap door in the attic for ventilation purposes.  Sometimes the sun-light shines through, which casts a pattern of the carpeted floor.  I feel warmth when I see this, and its a pleasant scene.   However, when the weather turns cold in the winter, the wind causes a draft and subtle howling sound through the vent.
